New Story Accepted by Word Riot!

Word Riot, people. WORD RIOT.

I’m pinching myself…walking around in a daze. I feel elated.

Word Riot’s Fiction Editor, Kevin O’Cuinn, has provided crucial support and encouragement. Without him, this achievement would not be possible.

Kevin has been patient with my submissions (there have been many) and he’s provided the kind of tough-love all writers need from great editors. His guidance – and scalpel cuts – have been a master class in editing. I do my best to use his lessons on each new piece of fiction I craft.

All I can say is editor, friend and trusted mentor only begin to describe how highly I think of him.

The piece Word Riot accepted is called Flame. It’s a flash fiction work, and as soon as I find out which issue it will appear in, I will let you all know.

  1. Nicely done! Man, I did the dance with them, I dunno, a dozen times or more but could never trip Mr. O’Quinn’s trigger. Way to go!

    • Thank you Court. I have to say, this is just huge for me. And Kevin has been phenomenal – but – not an easy gatekeeper. It’s not like you waltz in the door… but to know that something did make the grade, well, it’s leaves me … knocked out. In a good way!

Thanks for your kind words, it means a lot to me!!

  2. Woohoo! I know you were determined to get in there for awhile. Congrats!

    • Haha… if by a while you mean “more than a year with consistent submissions during that time,” then yes, that was a measure of my determination! 🙂

Thanks for your kind words Hannah!

  3. Congratulations, Carol.

Couldn’t happen to a nicer writer.

  4. I only know a few writers, but I know of no one that works harder to get her works out in the market. Therefore, I know no one who deserves it more. Congratulations!

    • Thank you so much. It’s kind of funny, I just took a break from submitting my work to write this reply – and now going back to it! 🙂

I appreciate your comments AND your readership!

  5. Many congratulations Carol! You keep on hitting those homeruns – I’m super proud of you!
